Guitar Orchestra over view

21 years ago I was talking with my colleague Michael Partington at the Grand Illusion cafe across from the original location of the Rosewood Guitar.  What came from a conversation about community, growth as an artist and a curator of programs and steward to guitars in chamber music is the Guitar orchestra of Seattle. Our maiden voyage was with 50 guitarists and one vibraphone player on the Seattle Classic Guitar Society's Holiday concert. We have played every holiday concert since. 

It is now 2020, and roughly, 60 some plus workshops and 90 or so concerts later, workshops for Guitar Orchestra of Seattle have explored music from the Silk Road, music from West Africa, along the Caribbean to American composers such as Reverend Gary Davis, Bill Frisell and even music from Beck's song book. We have also dug deep into the canon of well known and obscure composers from Europe from Dufay, and Dustable, to JS Bach, Gabriel Fauré, and lesser known JD Heinichen, JK Neruda and Reinhard Kaiser.

Every session is an opportunity to better our musicianship by not only working on technical skills and music interpretation of classical pieces representing a wide variety of styles and cultures, but also gong out into the larger community and performing.
